Our rule
If it isn’t in the first column, we won’t sell it to you as if it were.
What it’s made of
Fair Copy Edit runs the workflow on your computer. Two cloud services do the transcription and the planning, through accounts you own.
| Component | Kind | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Fair Copy Edit | Windows application | Runs the workflow and keeps the source recording unaltered. Links every output to its source, validates edit plans, controls preview, approval and rendering. Every edit is saved as its own version; earlier finals move to an Older versions folder, and nothing is deleted unless you choose to free up space. |
| ElevenLabs | Cloud transcription, through your own account | Produces the word-timed transcript that every cut refers back to. |
| Claude Code | Cloud AI planning, through your own account | Reads the brief and the whole transcript, then proposes what stays, what goes and what needs review. |
| Your own plans | Cut sheets; plans from ChatGPT or another AI | Alternatives to automatic planning. They pass through the same validation before anything is rendered. |
| FFmpeg | Media processing engine | Applies the cuts, any selected speed changes and the audio treatment, and renders synchronised video and audio. |
What you get
All of it is generated and stored on your own computer.
Final video
Full-quality 16:9 MP4, rendered from the approved version.
Captions
An SRT caption file, timed to the edited video.
Shorts
9:16 vertical Shorts, where a passage stands on its own.
Working files
540p review previews, the edit plan and change record, every version of your edit (earlier finals in an Older versions folder), and diagnostic reports.
Publishing text
Draft titles, descriptions or chapters, when generated. These need your editing.
What it suits
Built for: Teaching and preaching, interviews, podcasts, panel conversations, debates, long-form commentary, and other recordings whose meaning depends on context, argument or sequence.
Not built for: Music videos, effects-led productions and heavily scripted work.
Price, requirements and licence
What it costs, the Windows computer and accounts you need, the licence, and what happens after you buy are all on one page, so there’s only one place to check.
Where your recordings go
Nothing leaves your computer except what transcription and planning need.
Stays on your computer
Your source recordings, the edit operations and every rendered file.
Sent to ElevenLabs
The audio, when you authorise transcription.
Sent to your AI service
The relevant transcript, your brief and editorial information, so it can plan the edit.
Provider terms
Each provider’s own terms govern its behaviour, availability, charges and data retention.
Credentials
Fair Copy Edit contains no developer credentials. You supply your own.
Limits and precautions
Automated suggestions can be inaccurate or misleading. Before you publish, check meaning, continuity, spoken-word boundaries, captions and framing. Not every recording yields a usable Short, and nothing is published automatically.
