Steps

You need

  1. On the Overview page, click Video brief.
  2. Who is this video for? Replace the starting text with your own words (for example “home bakers who are new to bread”).
  3. The central question it answers (optional): for example “Why does bread dough rise?”
  4. Keep regardless of length (optional): the point that must never be cut (for example “the warning that cold slows the yeast down but doesn’t stop it”).
  5. Leave Target length and Content mode as they are, or change them (Content mode offers several kinds of recording; auto lets the editor work it out). Click Save the brief.

You’ll know it worked when

The window closes and the Overview’s next step is Make the edit. Open Video brief again any time to check or change it.

Good to know

  • The editor reads your brief with every edit and every revision.
  • A length is a guide, not a quota: the editor never cuts a concession or a correction to fit, and says why when it must run longer.
  • For a recording shorter than 30 minutes, the length starts from about half its length up to its full length, in whole minutes. What you type always stands.
  • Nothing in this lesson costs anything or sends anything anywhere.

Lesson four: the video brief. In a few words, you tell Fair Copy Edit who the video is for and what must stay in.

Transcript is ready. Before the edit, tell Fair Copy Edit what the video is for. Step one. Click Video brief.

The editor reads your brief every time it edits or revises your video. It’s very smart. Step two. Who is the video for? Say it in your own words. Ours is for home bakers who are new to bread. Sourdough bread.

Step three. The question it answers: why does bread dough rise?

Step four, and this one matters. What must stay in, whatever happens? Our recording has an important warning about cold dough, so we name it here.

For a short recording, the length starts from the recording itself, in whole minutes. You can change it, or leave it, sir. And Content mode can stay on auto. The editor works it out. Step five. Click Save the brief.

Your brief is saved with the project. Open Video brief any time to change it. Next comes the edit itself.
